For this month’s Design of the Month, we have chosen Mr and Mrs Thorne’s kitchen, which was designed by Ken. It is a Hacker kitchen, using Satin Magnolia shaker style doors, with a splash of orange.
This is a very practical kitchen, and Mrs Thorne has personalised it with the rich orange glass splash back behind the hob, and along the oven wall – the dash of colour makes the kitchen vibrant and warm.
The worktop is slightly unusual, in the way that the breakfast bar is lower than the normal worktop height, and the hob worktop overlaps the breakfast bar to allow more working space, and creates a design feature of a shelf underneath. The worktop is laminate from Duropal, and the colour is perfectly subtle against the soft magnolia and bright orange. The breakfast bar is a practical and useful addition for a modern busy family who want to eat on the go, or chat while cooking.
The appliances highlight the simple stainless steel handles, and compliment the colour of the worktop to create a harmonious and calming kitchen. Glass display cabinets opposite the hob break up the long line of wall units, and add an area of interest which can be altered simply by changing the ornaments inside.
This is a perfect, practical, stylish, lovely kitchen and we hope Mr and Mrs Thorne enjoy using it as much as we loved seeing the design process progress from start to finish.
